Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share

jfsbsnow

Happy Monday! So, now everyone knows the exact view I have from my office at work! I just walked straight from my desk about three steps and clicked this pic out the window with my phone.  How’s that for random?!?

And…some other random stuff:

We went to a NEW restaurant last month and really liked the hummus they served there…so I’m going to try this Taco Hummus and see if it even comes close.  I’ll keep you posted.

We went to see the King’s Singers recently and I learned that they performed some of their very best pieces as encores!  (They did about four encores!)  I really liked the “I’m A Train” piece.  Wowza! This group is obviously not the same group we saw last week, but they sang just as fast!

Lastly, I want to take TheGenealogyGirl’s challenge and write down 10 family history story ideas/prompts every week – an idea she got from former Governor Leavitt’s Keynote speech at RootsTech:

Mike Leavitt told us that he tricked himself into writing his personal history by making a quick list of stories worth telling – just a word or phrase that would remind him.  This list started with 10 items, then 100, then 1,000.  Eventually he wrote these stories out.

So here’s this week’s

1. In honor of Gov Leavitt’s little brother (whom I spent a lot of time with in High School)…memories of band ( H.S. and College).
2. Dad’s frugality (examples of)
3. Learning to drive (and being in car while older siblings learned to drive.
4. Horseback riding (everyone’s stories of getting bucked off :o)
5. Memories of Grandma Anderson
6. Most embarrassing moments
7. Meeting the in-laws for the first time
8. Kindergarten (can anyone remember?)
9. Favorite school teacher
10. Memories of Sacrament Meeting (Frank tells the story of someone trying not to laugh out loud, but someone plugs their nose so then they snort even louder. Getting sherbet for a treat, if good in church.

Miscellaneous Monday…NEW stuff i gotta share…

snow

Happy Monday!

I was just about to use this photo for yesterday’s post….because with my NEW journal writing ambitions, it really is up to me to see the beauty of everyday things (see yesterday’s short Sunday sermon).  But, I decided to wait and use this photo for today’s post.  Why?…you’ll soon read why.

For today’s miscellaneous stuff, I wanted to share a post I read over a month ago. It was an awesome post that I saved in my “want to do” file. Connie at BASILDONKITCHENS listed 5 things that brought her joy. So here are mine:

  1. I find joy in wearing new socks for the first time!
  2. I find joy in sitting by my fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate!
  3. I find joy in sleeping in freshly laundered sheets!
  4. I find joy in having sisters to go on ‘Girl’s Weekend Getaways’ with!
  5. …and lastly, I find joy in having a husband, who takes the time to offer to go for a drive with me, just to be with me; and tells me to bring my camera, just because he knows me so well! I find joy in having a husband that keeps on the lookout for possible photo opportunities, like snow blowing off a roof…then waits patiently for me as I wait and wait and wait for the wind to gust so I can get a good shot of the snow blowing off the roof. (BTW, the gust never got as strong as when hubby originally got the idea for the shot…but hopefully you get the drift.  Pun intended! :o) I find absolute joy in having a husband that sees the beauty in everyday things!

Connie also said this: “I find that my photography helps me see joy in little things everywhere. It’s the little things that sprinkle joy & happiness throughout the mundane of everyday.”  …and I SO agree!

Have a great day! Do or learn something NEW…and I hope it brings you joy!

a NEW taste Tuesday

dessert

Happy Tuesday! Well, I’ve got to confess that my entire system is in shock!  Hubby and I just spent ten days in Hawaii…temps in the upper 80’s and I haven’t had to prepare a single meal for over a week and a half.  BUT NOW…this is what we’ve returned to:

snow2

…and tonight we are hosting a couple dozen college students (I’m cooking dinner :o).  I thought it best to choose a very simple meal – so Hawaiian Haystacks it is, along with this very simple ‘No-Bake Hawaiian Dream Dessert’ .  Little by little I’ll come out of my shock, but these things take time, ya know!?!.  Have a great day. Do or learn something NEW!

wintergate2

Happy Monday!

Do you recognize this little fence and gate?  It’s the same gate as my very favorite fall photo from last year…no, two years ago!  Apparently someone put the gate back on its hinges.  Artistically, I’m not sure I appreciate that! :o)

Also…speaking of hinges…I finally searched for a website that I was told had all of Jeanne P Lawler’s music on it.  Jeanne was a dear friend of our family.  She passed away a couple of years ago, but her music lives on!  {Here’s the website}  She wrote the music to the children’s song “Hinges“.  What an awesome lady she was!  I’m going to have to find the photo of her pulling up her pant legs to show off her crazy socks on our Alaskan cruise!  You’ll love it…(when I find it!)

Lastly…I had to share this reference guide for Quaker family history research at Ancestry.com.  Such good information!  I’ve got to get to work…my family history research has been lagging lately.

Have a great day!  Do or Learn something NEW!

snow

Happy Monday!

Well, I found out that it’s kinda fun to bring snow indoors and play around with it. :o)…We finally got some NEW white stuff where I live.  It arrived on Christmas Eve!  Beautiful!

What else is NEW?  Well, I’ve been thinking a lot about being ultra aware of things lately.  I started using a NEW budget tracking software system that my sister recommended.  I have always been really careful with our money.  I thought I was pretty ‘aware’ of where our funds went.  But with this system, I’m ULTRA-aware and I think that’s a good thing.  The system is called YNAB (You Need A Budget).

I’m also tracking my eating and exercising more…thus I’m being ULTRA-aware of what goes into my bod also.  It sure takes time, but I think awareness is key to successfully reaching goals.  Tracking is essential!  FYI…there are TONS of food journaling apps etc.

And lastly…I got a NEW “AppleTV” gadget.  I think I’ll like it a lot…I’ll let you know my review in a future post.   I don’t watch a lot of TV, but when I do, my biggest pet peeve is having to watch commercials.  Therefore I have to shell out big money just to have a DVR with our cable system and now the AppleTV…basically for the same reason.  :o)

Have a great Monday!  Do or Learn or BUY something NEW!

a NEW iPhone Friday Photo

rainyday2

I took this photo on my phone on JUNE 17th!  It was rainy in the valley and snowy in the mountains that day!  Around here we say, ‘If you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes and it’ll change!’

This view was from a ‘Parade of Homes’ house my sister and I were touring through…they had a lovely view of the mountains, but they were covered in fog and clouds that day.   Have a great Friday!  Do or Learn something NEW!
