NEW Mantle Decor

Happy Tuesday!  You know…one thing I love about blogging is, it keeps me somewhat accountable regarding my projects.  I’m sure you don’t remember  (but I do!!!)….that I previously mentioned I’d like to have different mantle décor every month.  Well…that really hasn’t happened in 2014.  BUT, I remember typing that statement, and it IS a true statement…I’ve just gotta make it happen in 2015…or 2016.  SO…here’s November’s décor.  I have stuff for December…but January needs some serious help!  Wish me luck…and any great ideas would be greatly appreciated also!

NEW Spring Sugar Cookies

cookiecollage2

YUM!  Spring Sugar Cookies!  I finally took the time to frost these cookies….(we won’t mention how long they sat on my counter in the air-tight containers…just waiting for my attention :o)  Even my son mentioned that he’d appreciate it if I made the frosting THE SAME DAY as I made the cookies!  Ya, Ya, Ya! :o)  I guess that should be my NEW goal.  Happy Friday!  Do or Learn something NEW!

NEW tips for decorating sugar cookies

sugarcookies

Happy Saturday everyone!  For the last year or so, I’ve wanted to be able to decorate cookies like: Haniela, or Callie @ SugarBelle, or Marian @ Sweetopia! BUT, I’m far, faR, FAR from their level of expertise! However, I’ve enjoyed learning from them.  Now if I can just find make the time to practice what I’ve learned….maybe I can improve my efforts. 🙂

Last night I made these Christmas tree cookies because I wanted to try something NEW!  I tried Haniela’s “Walmart Disposable Sandwich Bag” method. {check it out HERE}  I don’t really think that is her official title for the method, but I thought it looked brilliant!  Disposable is always good for clean up! Right?  Check out my prior post on how to make cookies without any mess too! {HERE}.

And now, a couple of NEW tips of my own:

When you’re practicing NEW techniques for the first time…(trust me, they won’t usually turn out like the experts).   BUT if you practice the NEW technique and afterword cover up your “experiment” with sprinkles, the cookie will still look lovely AND edible!  No one is the wiser! 🙂

I also learned recently that it is much easier to mix in food coloring gel with a knife rather than a spoon!  (Because you can drag off the excess or non-incorporated frosting more easily with a knife than you can with a spoon.)

So…try a NEW technique or learn or do something else NEW today!

a NEW board and batten project done…and more ledges to dust!

Hi all!  If you remember when I posted the before and after photos of our kitchen remodel, I mentioned we had a few unfinished projects left to go.  Well, the board and batten project in our dining room is now finished…yeah! 🙂

As you can see, I now have MORE LEDGES TO DUST! But I like the look enough to suffer through the unpleasant side-effects!

a NEW tip for your tablescape endeavors

christmas tablescape

Merry Christmas Eve!  I wasn’t really planning on posting today, because….well, it’s Christmas Eve, and I didn’t think I’d take the time.  But!…as you can see, my table is all set and waiting for dinner to be served.  The hubby is out shoveling snow (for the 2nd or 3rd time today), the boys are involved in a game and so, here I am!

We don’t get the fancy tablecloth and real napkins out too often..because with a house full of boys, well, they really just DON’T CARE!  Yes, the food they care about, but the tablescape, not so much :o)  So I got the fancy Christmas china out today for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner…took a pic of the fancy table…and noticed the  WRINKLED  table-cloth!

Ideally, I’d have taken the time to iron the cloth before I set the table…but (obviously) I didn’t.   It’s then, that I remembered a little trick I saw a very experienced tablescaper perform last year.  We were setting up for a Senior Citizens Christmas brunch last year and after getting the tablecloths out of a bin, and onto the tables, this lady proceeded to spritz all of the tables with a little water from a spray bottle.  It immediately made sense….and I wondered why I’d never thought of this trick or seen anyone else do that!  (Am I the only one this ‘trick’ is NEW to?????)  Ha!   I don’t think I’ll ever really iron a tablecloth ever again….even if I do think about it before I set the table!
